Sheridan College

Founded in 1967, Sheridan is one of Ontario’s leading postsecondary institutions with approximately 24,500 full-time and 18,500 part-time and continuing studies students, and three Greater Toronto Area campuses located in Oakville, Brampton and Mississauga.

In this exciting period of growth and evolution, Sheridan is seeking a dynamic, seasoned and strategic leader to champion our transformative approach to Teaching and Learning, both across the institution and through the Centre for Teaching and Learning, as Dean, Teaching and Learning

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Academic, the Dean, Teaching and Learning provides strategic and operational leadership, balancing and aligning the vision and strategic objectives of the College with those of the Centre and related programming.

In keeping with the unique footprint of our strategic plan, Sheridan 2024: Galvanizing Education for a Complex World, the Dean is responsible for advancing excellence, creativity and innovation in teaching, learning and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and for the development, delivery and ongoing quality review of programs, initiatives and services offered through the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Fostering a positive and inclusive environment that is consistent with Sheridan’s commitment to character, quality, and accountability, the Dean develops, inspires and empowers a team of faculty and staff to ensure continuous improvement and evolution in a range of offerings that meet the needs of our learning community.

The Dean initiates and cultivates strategic relationships with internal peers and external constituencies (e.g. government agencies, professional societies, industry experts, community partners and other educational institutions) to represent the interests and build on the profile and reputation of Sheridan, the Centre and its programs.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a related discipline and be a seasoned administrator and academic leader with a solid record of experience in teaching and learning, including curriculum delivery and design, quality assurance and faculty development.

As an approachable, collegial leader with strong relationship-building skills and the ability to foster an environment of collaboration, consultation, integrity and care, the next Dean will support people from a diversity of academic and professional disciplines in shaping and achieving their goals.

The ideal candidate will be able to synthesize information and construct and operationalize a clear, compelling strategy to support creativity and innovation in the Centre and mobilize outstanding, inspirational experiences of teaching and learning at Sheridan.

The Dean plays a collaborative role with other leaders and contributes to student success by fulfilling responsibilities such as:

  • Advancing strategies and operational processes, and implementing innovative ideas, that support excellence, continuous improvement and sustainability in academic quality, educational development and educational technologies;
  • Championing a culture of quality, creativity and excellence in curricular design, delivery and review, and cultivating a culture of engagement in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning;
  • Enabling and promoting pan-institutional collaborations, innovations and sharing of evidence-informed practices in academic quality and educational development and technologies;
  • Ensuring compliance of standards, regulations and deliverables around quality assurance of program/curriculum development and review, and serving as a consulting resource to Faculties and Departments;
  • Liaising with ministry bodies if/as required to facilitate quality assurance processes;
  • Supporting academic leaders in faculty development and quality assurance initiatives, and inspiring a growth mindset orientation that fuels boundless opportunities for exceptional learner focused experiences;
  • Leading strategic development and management of budgets including an efficient allocation of fiscal and physical resources to services.
