Job Description


 

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) at Virginia Tech invites applications for a collegiate (non-tenure-track) faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of biomedical devices effective August 2021. Candidates with broader interests in theoretical, computational, or experimental methods for biomedical devices at any scale are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring students, and conducting research on teaching/learning and/or disciplinary topics in their field.

BEAM is an interdisciplinary department with faculty having broad interests spanning engineering, science, mathematics, and medicine. It offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering and in engineering mechanics, and currently has 42 faculty, a new undergraduate biomedical engineering program, and nearly 200 graduate students. The department and its School for Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES) combine the strengths of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering, the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC) Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, the Virginia Tech Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS), the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Job Requirements

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related discipline, prior to the effective date of the appointment. Postdoctoral experience leading projects beyond graduate school or comparable experience such as in the medical device industry/regulatory affairs is preferred.
