SUMMARY

Fielding Graduate University delivers a personalized graduate education that fosters individual development, community collaboration, and societal engagement. Our vision is for our graduates to excel in scholarship and practice that create a more humane, equitable, just, and sustainable world.

The PhD in Infant and Early Childhood Development (IECD) is an interprofessional, multidisciplinary degree with an emphasis in infant mental health (IMH), and a developmental, individual differences, and relationship-based (DIR®) approach to assessment and intervention. The original design of the program was initiated by Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Weider, PhD, to promote research around relationship-based practices for working with infants, children, and their families. The Fielding program has expanded to partner with various organizations, offering courses that support both infant mental health and developmental competencies. Through Fielding’s progressive doctoral program, professionals from the fields of mental health, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language, nursing, social work, special education, and other disciplines broaden their knowledge, deepen their holistic interprofessional view of children and their families, and develop strong doctoral level research competencies.

Applicants must be able to show proof of the right to work in the U.S.
