Job Description

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University seeks outstanding applicants for a full-time Research Scientist position with expertise in perinatal epidemiology. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Non-Tenure Line (Research) [NTLR].  The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists.  Faculty appointed in the Non-Tenure Line primarily have special expertise in a relatively narrow field that is of particular benefit to a broader clinical or research program.

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics at Stanford University is an internationally recognized research and clinical program which delivers comprehensive and multidisciplinary care in close collaboration with neonatology and other specialties.

Stanford is located in Silicon Valley, the heart of the Bay Area bioscience community, and is a friendly and collegial place to work.  The surrounding communities of San Francisco and the greater Bay Area offer an unrivaled array of recreational and cultural venues with a temperate climate that allows for year-round enjoyment.

Job Requirements

Individuals appointed as Assistant Professors in the Research Line will have completed one or two years of postdoctoral research experience and, where applicable, will have completed housestaff training. Their accomplishments during graduate and postgraduate training should already have stamped them as creative and promising investigators.

There should be evidence of the ability to obtain external funding as well as the promise of outstanding performance as a supervisor of graduate students. Appointment is based on evidence of (or the promise of) high-level performance in research, and (if applicable) teaching and clinical care. The initial term of appointment will be four years.

This appointment is coterminous with continued salary and other research support from sponsored research projects and is open to candidates with a PhD or PhD-equivalent (e.g. ScD, DrPH) with relevant postdoctoral experience in perinatal epidemiology, demonstrated performance of independent research, track-record as a collaborator, and excellence in teaching and mentoring. A successful candidate must have achieved or have the promise to achieve true distinction in scholarship.
