The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is a unique collaboration in architecture, art, and design education within the context of an internationally recognized research university. Comprising the College of Art, the College of Architecture, and the Kemper Art Museum, the Sam Fox School offers a depth of professional education in conjunction with a premier university art museum. The College of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design, Fashion Design, and Art with optional concentrations in Painting Drawing Printmaking, Media Arts or Sculpture/Extended Practice, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art or Design, with optional concentrations in communication and fashion. The Graduate School of Art offers a nationally ranked Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art and a new Master of Fine Arts in Illustration & Visual Culture. Together, the College and Graduate School of Art enroll approximately 300 undergraduate and 45 graduate students. The College of Architecture enrolls approximately 200 students and offers a four-year undergraduate degree leading to a Bachelor of Science in Architecture or a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. The nationally ranked Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design enrolls approximately 200 students and offers professional degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture; post-professional degrees in Urban Design, Advanced Architectural Design, and Architectural Studies. Along with dual degree options between the Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design programs, there are joint degree options with Construction Management, Social Work, Business, and Computer Science. The Sam Fox School is housed in a six-building complex of new and recently renovated facilities that includes: the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, home to one of the finest university collections of significant paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installation works by 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century American and European artists, along with significant antiquities; and the new Anabeth and John Weil Hall, which houses state-of-the-art graduate studios across programs, classrooms, and digital fabrication spaces. The Sam Fox School’s degree programs are supplemented by a number of creative research centers, including Island Press, the Office for Socially Engaged Practice and Fox Fridays workshops. The School hosts a lively series of lectures, symposia, and exhibitions and enjoys strong collaborations with the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the Saint Louis Art Museum.
