Organization Profile

The Department of Physics and Astronomy (DPA) at the University of Mississippi is located in Lewis Hall on the Oxford campus adjacent to the historic small town of Oxford, MS.  The DPA currently has 15 full-time faculty who teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses.  Members of the faculty carry out research in areas of condensed matter, gravitational and high energy physics and physical acoustics in cutting-edge facilities on campus and around the world.  Student in the DPA work and interact with this group of dedicated scholars in experimental and theoretical physics.  In addition to regionally competitive pay, faculty and staff employees of the University of Mississippi are offered health, vision and dental insurance options as well as discounted tickets to athletic and performance art events.  As one of The Chronicle of Higher Education's "Great Colleges to Work For," the University of Mississippi's commitment to work-life balance speaks for itself.  In addition, the university if the only Southeastern Conference school included among the top 10 on the newspaper's Honor Roll, which recognizes schools that score the highest in employee satisfaction across 12 categories.
