The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for the position of an

Endowed Junior Professorship (W1) for Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

at the Institute of Social Sciences in Agriculture to be filled as soon as possible.


The professor will represent the subject in research and teaching. The professorship’s research concentration will be on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in the field of sustainability, with particular emphasis on agricultural land use systems. The application-oriented research should contribute to solving urgent environmental problems in the context of global food security and be of particular relevance to developing and transitioning countries.

Excellent knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods from the social and environmental sciences is required; an expansion of the range of methods to include transdisciplinary approaches or the ability to link into these approaches is particularly welcomed. Preferably, the applicant will have in-depth knowledge about the methods of spatial econometrics and/or the application of geographic information systems.

The successful application will cooperate with other professors in agricultural sciences, political sciences, and social sciences and contribute to strengthening the inter-faculty focus on "Global Food Security and Ecosystems" at the University of Hohenheim. A high degree of international visibility and research networking are particularly desirable, for which e.g. field work in different countries can serve.

The teaching load is four semester hours per week. The professor will teach courses in the subject area outlined above in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Candidates must be able to offer courses in German and English.



Job Requirements

To be appointed, the candidate must have a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and an outstanding doctorate. A further prerequisite for appointment is the proven procurement of funding from the "Robert Bosch Junior Professorship for the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources" program.
