Diagnostic Pathologist. Asst/Assoc/Full Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Pathology in the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) and Department of Pathology Microbiology & Immunology, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
The candidate will function primarily as a diagnostic pathologist in the CAHFS laboratory located on the UC Davis campus. The diagnostic caseload includes a variety of livestock and avian species with an emphasis of disease conditions affecting food animal species. Interaction with veterinarians and livestock producers is an integral part of this position. Creative use of diagnostic case material including publication of results in appropriate journals is essential. The incumbent will have daily interaction with local resident and limited teaching responsibilities to veterinary and graduate students. University and public service through departmental, school and university committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate activities is required.
DVM or equivalent degree with experience in mammalian/avian diseases required. Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) required. Appointment renewal requires ACVP or ECVP board certification within 3 years of the date of hire. Demonstrated ability in diagnostic anatomic pathology and applied research required. Demonstrated experience in diagnostic disciplines, disease investigation and experience in diagnostic interpretation required. Advanced degree in veterinary pathology or related field preferred. Knowledge of quality assurance, molecular diagnostics and bacteriology desired. The successful candidate will have: i) excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with veterinarians, producers and government agencies; ii) client-focused, service-oriented approach to diagnostics; iii) demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere, and iv) demonstrated (or potential) accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity and inclusion.
