Job Description

Newberry College seeks a full-time faculty appointment beginning August 2024. Successful candidate will demonstrate effectiveness in teaching Public Speaking in a liberal arts environment with evidence of successful collaboration with a teaching team. This is a non-tenure track appointment with teaching as the primary responsibility.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Teach 8-9 sections of Public Speaking per academic year. Opportunities to teach for additional stipend for teaching during J-Term, May term, summer. SPE 110 Public Speaking satisfies Core Curriculum requirements in SP/Expression/Oral Communication (Oral Communication Component of Core Competency 1: Communication – Students will have the writing, speaking, and reading skills necessary to communicate).

SP Core Learning Outcomes:

1. Students will practice public speaking skills necessary to effectively communicate with an audience.

2. Students will apply vocabulary of public speaking in discussion.

3. Students will apply critical and constructive listening skills.

Job Requirements

MA/MFA/ABD or PhD in Speech Communications or Theatre or significant professional experience teaching Public Speaking or a related discipline. Strong organizational and communication skills, commitment to mentoring with a positive attitude required. Specialization in debate, group communication, Oral Interpretation, dialect work, or diction coaching a plus.
