Job Description

 

 Moravian University seeks an innovative and collaborative leader to serve as Chair of Undergraduate Nursing. This position oversees pre-licensure nursing programs and plays a key role in advancing curricular excellence, student success, and faculty development within the Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in undergraduate nursing education, evidence-based teaching practices, and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments.

The Chair will lead strategic planning, curriculum and program evaluation, simulation and clinical partnerships, and accreditation and regulatory efforts. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, support faculty and student development, and serve as a champion for academic quality and continuous improvement.

The Chair will contribute to the scholarship of nursing and/or nursing education, cultivate strong internal and external partnerships, and advance the mission and values of Moravian University’s School of Nursing and College of Health.

The Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing provides students with an education that blends compassionate art with scientific inquiry to achieve a transformative education. Its faculty are committed to the quality of its academic offerings, development of new programming, and dedicated to meeting requisite standards of professional regulatory bodies. 

Moravian University offers CCNE-accredited undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, including pre-licensure pathways, an RN-to-BSN program, and a 16-month accelerated post-baccalaureate option for non-nursing graduates. Graduate students may pursue a Master of Science in Nursing with tracks in Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Educator, as well as Nurse Practitioner programs preparing Family Nurse Practitioners and Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioners in Acute or Primary Care. The School has also recently launched a post-master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

Job Requirements

General

  • Maintain high academic standards for the School of Nursing.
  • Oversee and participate in the continuing assessment and refinement of undergraduate nursing curriculum.
  • Develop and submit reports related to the undergraduate nursing programs as required by the University and accrediting agencies.
  • Provide inclusive educational experiences for undergraduate nursing students in the classroom and clinical environments. 
  • Develop plans to recruit, support, and promote student enrollment of a body of students with diverse backgrounds and participate in enrollment activities and admissions decision making.
  • Participate in the governance of the Moravian University nursing program through the Nursing Faculty Organization and its appropriate working subcommittees.
  • Provide oversight and collaborates with the clinical coordinator for all clinical practicum placements and course schedules within the undergraduate nursing curriculum.
  • Remain abreast of current state and national policies, regulations, and trends that affects undergraduate nursing students and informs nursing program administrators, faculty, and students of these current issues. Make recommendations for programmatic changes as needed based upon these trends.

Budgetary 

  • Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

Supervision/Mentoring 

  • Serve as academic advisor for undergraduate nursing students.
  • Establish positive faculty-student relationships with effective communications in formal and informal contacts. 
  • Serve as a professional role model for faculty, students, and staff. 

Teaching and Scholarship 

  • Typical teaching load includes teaching 8 courses throughout the year, it is anticipated that this position will include 3 course releases for administrative responsibilities involved in the School of Nursing undergraduate programs. 
  • Evaluate student learning outcomes in various units of classroom and clinical agency instruction and evaluates student performance in accordance with established standards

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required: 

  • Doctoral degree 
  • Current registered nurse license in Pennsylvania or multistate license. 
  • A minimum of two years of recent classroom and clinical experience. 
  • Program oversight and/or leadership experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated previous or current competence as a nursing instructor, with experience in student advisement and curricular development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Preferred: 

  • Previous experience as a director. 
  • Prior experience with program and curriculum development.
  • Experience working with nursing accrediting and licensing bodies.
  • Computer literacy in office suite software packages.
