The Columbia Climate School (CCS) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline, to begin July 1, 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful reviews. Lecturers in Discipline are officers in the University who meet a programmatic need for instruction in specialized fields. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of teaching experience in the broad area of climate and sustainability, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, climate justice and/or climate and food systems. Candidates for this position should have the capacity to build out a strong teaching portfolio that fits within our innovative and interdisciplinary degree programs at the CCS
Applicants should have a Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent terminal degree in a field relevant to climate and sustainability, or be close to completing such a degree from an accredited institution, and should demonstrate the promise of becoming an outstanding instructor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Lecturer positions within the CCS carry a robust annual teaching load and may include, in addition to or in lieu of some teaching responsibilities, mentoring and advising students, along with opportunities for curricular development, administrative appointments, and research activities in collaboration with our interdisciplinary Climate School faculty.
We seek candidates who will combine exceptional disciplinary training with a strong commitment to the professional mission and values of the Climate School, focusing on innovative approaches to training the next generation of leaders in climate change, while centering solutions that prioritize societal benefits. Areas of specialization should align with and complement existing scholarship across the Climate School’s diverse faculty.
