Position Description

The Baylor University History Department seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the History of Medicine at the Assistant Professor level effective August 2027. Chronology and geography open. The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in history or a related field and be able to demonstrate a research and teaching agenda appropriate for an R1 institution, as well as a willingness to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration and to seek external research funding.  Candidates who are outside the United States and do not have other nonimmigrant visa status will not be sponsored for an H-1B petition.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in history or a related field, with dissertation defended before August 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a research and teaching agenda that is appropriate for an R1 institution and complements existing strengths of the History Department

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate potential, or have experience, in the following areas: research publication; undergraduate and/or graduate teaching; undergraduate and/or graduate mentorship; interdisciplinary collaboration (particularly with Medical Humanities or Bioethics); seeking external research funding.

Please submit the following initial materials electronically via Interfolio by 11 PM CDT on 09/08/2026: (a) letter of interest, (b) curriculum vitae, (c) an official transcript for the highest degree conferred or in process,  (d) a list of three references, and (e) Baylor’s Religious Affiliation Form. At a later time, applicants considered for interviews will be asked to provide  an article-length writing sample representing current research (unpublished or published). Recommendation letters will also be requested at this time. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
